‘FUTURISM’

Ism Records now into their third year have gone from strength in a very short space of time. Set up by Yam Who? to channel their eclectic musical tastes, Ism has now established itself as a fierce independent label and felt that the time was right to release their first full length compilation, ‘Futurism’.

Yam Who?, have now acquired the immense vocal talents of Miss Natasha Watts and have collaborated displaying their shared passion of the deep soulful U.S proto-house productions that hit these shores in the late 80's and early 90’s. The Sha-lor version produced by Ben Cenac and originally released on Gertie records in 1988 was hugely received by the UK scene and was embraced by DJ's all across the music spectrum. This modern day interpretation has stayed true to the original form keeping the anthemic vocal elements in place and lets face it there are not many vocalists on the scene today who can deliver like Natasha Watts. She is currently hugely in demand around the world and has recently started writing her debut album with Kaidi Thatham and Cool Million. The Yam Who version featured here has be retouched and deepened by Ism’s very own Electric Boogie.

Ron Basejam’s ‘Deep & Meaningless’ debut longplayer was the release that truly launched the Ism label and received raptuous acclaim from music community. The leading track ‘Hot Fridge’ has been turned inside out here from London DJ & producer Paul Barkworth from the Disco Dirtbox camp. Fans of Soundstream will hear the inspiration behind this version. Heavy, techy, electro funk from the future!

2020 Vision’s PBR Streetgang AKA Bonar Bradbury and Tom Thorpe are one of the hottest production duo's around earning them fans from across the globe. ‘J2thaB’ has been bubbling on the underground for the past year and constantly crops up in sets from DJ Rahaan, Crazy P, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson and Ralph Lawson. They have released their music on Future Classic, Wolf Music and not forgetting the immense interpretation of Ron Basejam's ‘Is the word' for ISM. Last year saw them tear up the dance floors at Glastonbury, the Garden Festival and We Love Space in Ibiza . We are sure that their debut release for ISM will see them being “the ones to watch†in 2011.

Fresh out of the ISM camp are the Brother’s Young with their debut collaboration ‘Inferno’ featuring NY City's Brother of poetic license the one and only D-Ham whose narration takes us on a journey from back in the day when when the Big Apple’s underground scene consisted of merely a blue light, a basement and a feeling. The Brothers Young is a new project from the ISM 's in house production team Yam Who? And Electric Boogie featuring all the hallmarks of the

Detroit classic's that has inspired so many producers sound and direction in recent years including the mighty Motor City Drum Ensemble and Soundstream amongst many others.

(All the tracks featured here on the compilation sampler are all unreleased)

The Leeds connection is strengthened further here from Death On The Balcony’s crew, with their debut release for Ism and the ultra modern ‘Odds On Favourite’. An deep 80’s inspired boogie house production this highlights Paul Hargreaves and Mark Carmelli hybrid club sound. Soulclap recently featured the duo amazing edit of Bananarama’s ‘Cruel Summer’. Their Throwback parties in Leeds have been going from strength to strength with guests Pete Herbert, Revenge and Mark e making regular appearances.
